A journey to the beginning of time

The exhibition marks 25 years of Romania’s involvement in the ALICE experiment at CERN and brings to the public’s attention an essential field of fundamental research: the exploration of matter at extreme energies. “Quanta” is conceived as a framework for intermediation between the abstract concepts of particle physics and the general public, through a set of multimedia installations, interactive applications and authentic artefacts.
The exhibition design is organised on a system of multimedia installations, which transform notions such as the quark-gluon plasma, the standard model or the first microseconds after the Big Bang into visual and tactile experiences.
Immersive projections and augmented reality applications create an accessible and captivating environment, where visitors can explore particle trajectories, heavy ion collisions and cosmic radiation.
In parallel, the exhibition integrates an authentic material component by presenting real detection and identification equipment used by the Romanian team within the ALICE experiment. These pieces serve as concrete evidence of Romania’s contributions to international research, complementing the abstract discourse with a tangible and verifiable level.
The entire exhibition ensemble functions as an architecture of experience: a combination of digital technology, interactivity, and real objects that makes an invisible world visible and translates the complex language of quantum physics into an accessible narrative.
An event organised as part of CERN 70 by IFIN-HH, Zeppelin Association Modulab, and the National Geological Museum
